Privacy Policy of "Get it Started"

Overall Privacy Statement
"Get it Started" understands that the collection and dissemination of personally identifiable information may be of concern to users of the site. Because the web site gathers certain types of information, users should fully understand the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and release of that information. The following discloses information gathering and dissemination practices for "Get it Started".

Information Gathered
The site's registration form requires users to provide contact information such as name and e-mail address. The user also has the option of providing "Get it Started" with additional personal information and individual preferences. "Get it Started" encourages users to fill in this information so that the content of the site will accurately reflect users' dominant areas of interests.

  • Cookies
    A cookie is a small data file that certain Web sites write to the user's hard drive when he or she visits the site. A cookie file can contain information, such as user ID, that the site uses to track pages the user has visited. "Get it Started" uses cookies to store member names and passwords so that a registered user can enter the site without having to log on each time. Additionally, the site will gather and store any other information voluntarily provided by users. "Get it Started" also uses cookies to anonymously track users' sessions (i.e., pages visited, frequency of visit, etc.).

Use of Information
"Get it Started" uses the information gathered in aggregate to identify the dominant areas of interest of users and better prepare future content of the site. The goal is to constantly improve the value of the materials on the site.

  • Newsletter Subscription
    "Get it Started" also offers a free electronic newsletter to users. At the time of registration, the site gathers the user's e-mail address and automatically distributes the newsletter via e- mail to that user. Users may opt out of receiving the newsletter at any time by emailing Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs or clicking on "unsubscribe" in the e-mail.

  • "Get Friends Started" Service
    Users can choose to electronically forward a link to "Get it Started" to someone else. Users must provide their e-mail address as well as that of the recipient. The information is used only in the case of transmission errors and to let the recipient know who sent the story. The information is not used for any other purpose.

Sharing of Information
"Get it Started" generally does not share personally identifiable information with any other entities. However, users are advised that information maintained by "Get it Started" may be disclosed in connection with judicial or administrative proceedings or if in the sole discretion of "Get it Started" disclosure is necessary to protect "Get it Started" or the Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania. Aggregate information may be shared with the sponsors of "Get it Started" in order to describe the demographics of users who see the sponsors' logos on the site.

Opt-Out Policy
This site allows users to control communications with "Get it Started" in the following ways:

  • With the exception of e-mail and user name, opting not to provide certain personal information when registering for the site.
  • To unsubscribe from the "Get it Started" newsletter, users must send an e-mail request to wep@wharton.upenn.edu.
  • Only users who request, during registriation, to receive updates on Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs and "Get it Started" will receive them.

This site contains links to other sites. The linkages are provided as a courtesy, to be used or not at the discretion of the individual user. If users decide to follow those other links, "Get it Started" can not be responsible for the privacy policies and content of those sites. Users should contact the coordinator of the particular site with any questions about those sites.

Deletion/Deactivate Policy
"Get it Started" does not currently offer users the ability to completely delete personal information established at the time of registration.
